Description
Under the Direction of the Leadership of the Principal, the Director of Special Education must understand the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), special education rules and regulations, services for students with disabilities and programming options for students with disabilities that both promote access to the general curriculum and ensure individualized services based on student needs. Oversee that DuBois Integrity Academy is in conformance to district, state, and federal objectives and laws; planning, designing, and implementing all phases of service provided by the Special Education staff; serving as a resource to patrons, school personnel, and the Board; and overseeing Special Education staff to ensure objectives of programs and services are achieved.
In Addition to the Special Education this individual must also be able to serve as the schoolwide MTSS Coordinator. As MTSS Coordinator the candidate must possess an in-depth knowledge of the entire MTSS process and be able to lead and facilitate effective implementation of this process to MTSS grade chairs and classroom teachers across grades K-5 with ongoing trainings of appropriate Tiered interventions, documentation of data points and processes.

Essential Job Functions
- Provide leadership and vision to ensure continuous organizational and improvement in elementary special education programs.
- Provide support to principals, parents, staff members, and district departments in areas related to the education of students with disabilities.
- Provide support to school teams in resolving issues related to programming, placement, and interpreting IDEA regulations.
- Collaborate with district departments to create systems of curriculum, instruction and assessment to promote access of students with disabilities to the general curriculum.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programs designed to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
- Monitor compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement systems that help students to transition from preschool to elementary and elementary to middle school.
- Evaluate IEP’s on individual students.
- Coordinates Section 504 Requirements
