About Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School
Utopian Academy for the Arts is an independent public charter school network serving elementary, middle, and high school children and families throughout Clayton County, GA. The Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School was approved by the Clayton County Public Schools System and operates as a locally-approved charter school. The rationale for the enrollment plan for Utopian Academy for the Arts was to provide a significant educational benefit of having gender-based classroom environments, and classes in the fine, dramatic, and media arts for students in Clayton County, GA.
The Role
Our greatest instructional strategy is our human capital. More than any other variable in education– more than curriculum or supplies—our faculty and staff matter. Effective teachers who are continually learning and setting high expectations are the key to student academic achievement and success. At Utopian Academy for the Arts Elementary School, we believe that students will rise to meet the high expectations set by our team of educators.
Expectations:
- Answers phone calls in a pleasant, informed manner for the purpose of providing information and creating a good image of the school;
- Manages telephone message system (office hours, inclement weather and other recorded messages);
- Assists in all aspects of maintaining a professional front office, including but not limited to, fielding and directing incoming phone calls to the appropriate staff member in a timely, professional manner, filing and copying and faxing of sensitive information;
- Greets all incoming students, families and guests respectfully and professionally;
- Leads school tours for new and prospective families
- Assists parents with the understanding of Title I Part A, NCLB, AYP, report cards, learning compacts, assessments, progress reports, Parent Rights & Responsibilities, and school improvement, Participates in early release conferences
- Serves as liaison between the local school and the Title I Office Parent Involvement and SES
- Conducts program evaluations of the parent activities and Title I, Part A program
- Monitors, maintains and submits all records and documentation required by Title I
- Develops and maintains a Parent Library and provides training for parents in the use of materials
- Organizes volunteer program; Recruits and provides continuous training for volunteers
- Communicates with parents via school newsletter, Parent Center newsletter, or website
- Assists in the development/implementation and monitoring of the Parent Involvement Budget
- Conducts professional learning sessions with staff to improve parent involvement
- Provides for children’s personal needs such as attending to those who are sick or hurt; administering medications as prescribed by a physician in accordance with training and authorization;
- Works with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with others, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team;
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; able to lift up to 25 pounds;
- Able to read, comprehend and apply job-related written material and make decisions in accordance with applicable school system policies and procedures;
- Able to perform basic arithmetical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals);
- Able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
- Effectively perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Executive Director.
Additional Duties:
- Composes a wide variety of documents (e.g. correspondence, agendas, minutes, bulletins, reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to school and district personnel, the public, state officials, etc.;
- Coordinates a variety of programs and/or activities (e.g. conference room usage, meetings, site in-service day activities, workshops, travel and accommodations, etc.);
- Coordinates and completes the translation of communications;
- Responds to a variety of internal and external inquiries from stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year, accredited college or university preferred;
- Previous Experience working with children;
- Must be able to pass a local criminal history check, a fingerprint background check;
- Experience working in an urban setting and Charter school experience, highly desirable.
