Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition-free, full-time virtual school for students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia. The school is authorized by the Georgia State Charter School Commission and governed by an independent Board of Directors, with a mission to maximize academic achievement for students who are seeking other academic options. The school is operated by Georgia Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Georgia, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and GACA is accredited by The Cognia Global Commission

Job Description:
Working from the central office in Duluth, Georgia, the Assistant Principal supports the school in driving academic outcomes for students as a key member of the school’s leadership team. Assistant Principals lead instruction to support a learning environment that maximizes growth for each student. The Assistant Principal assists the principal in leading school culture and developing leadership in the school’s emerging leaders. The Assistant Principal will have experience as a member of the school’s guiding coalition or leadership team and is a change agent with a clear and transformative vision for innovative online instructional practices for students in grades 9-12.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in education or related field.
- Eligible for Georgia Leadership Certification or Passing GAPSC approved Leadership Certification test required and complete GA Ethics for Educational Leadership Program Entry Assessment required. If obtaining a non-renewable certification, it must be completed within 2 years.
- Minimum of three years of successful relevant experience, preferably at the same level of administrative position to be considered
- Minimum 3 years of experience coaching and/or developing teachers
- Effective or highly effective rating in most recent performance evaluation
- Experience in researched-based instructional practices
- Demonstrated ability to produce positive academic outcomes for students
- Previous supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to effectively deliver performance feedback
- Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data. Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students’ knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; able to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies. Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- SRL Educational Leadership – Tier I [FLD700]
- Experience teaching high school Mathematics or English Language Arts
- Minimum 5 years relevant teaching experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as part of the school’s administrative team who; oversees the administration of school programs and the implementation of policies, assists in modeling and sustaining the school vision, assists in planning, organizing, and evaluating services for professional development and instructional program development
- Provide instructional leadership by; assisting in leading professional learning communities, utilizing data to make instructional decisions, monitor curriculum, instruction, and translating student mastery requirements into instructional strategies
- Assist in cultivating positive school culture with staff, students, and community stakeholders to maximize the growth and achievement of all students
- Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of staff in a performance-based environment by frequently conducting informal and formal observations of instruction and professionalism
- Collaborates with the Principal in the hiring process and retention of diverse, highly effective teachers and staff through supporting induction of new teachers and professional growth opportunities
- Collaborates with the Principal in identifying and developing emerging leaders through Career Ladder, goal setting and providing on-going feedback
- Assist in the organizational management planning for daily operations and appropriate allocation of fiscal resources
- Work effectively with teachers and other staff for the delivery of personalized instructional programs including programs for special student populations
- Communicates and supports students, caretakers/learning coaches and other community stakeholders
- Use and disaggregate data to guide instructional and operational decisions
- Demonstrates ability to create inclusive environments that support diversity in backgrounds and perspectives
- Adaptable to performing under stress while maintaining emotional control
