Research indicates that strong school leadership is the most important factor in generating positive growth in student achievement. For most charter school governing boards, leadership succession planning ranks among the top priorities each year. The GCSA Leadership Center provides teacher leaders, aspiring leaders, and current administrators with the tools they need to excel in charter school leadership. The Leadership Center kicks off with one week of intensive training that takes place between June 22-26 and additional hands-on support through December.
“It has given me a broader perspective on what it takes to make a school successful,” said Britton Bateman, a board member for The Main Street Academy. “I think it will help the charter school where I serve as a board member, because I now have a deeper understanding of how educators and school administrators relate to each other on a daily basis. I also obtained a greater knowledge about school-level curriculum, initiatives, programming and what’s behind classroom and administrative decisions.”
“If you’re thinking about joining the Leadership Center, please do it. Don’t limit yourself by thinking that this program is only for those who have aspirations to become a leader or school administrator, “Whitney Fulton Cotton, a fourth-grade teacher at International Community School said, “Participating in this program has made me a better classroom teacher and a better team member. Understanding that my role is integral to the success of my school and learning that my principal and administrators are dependent on me has been wonderful for my career and the success that I’ve had in the classroom this year.”
