ATLANTA, GA – This is the first time since austerity cuts began more than a decade ago that the Quality Basic Education (QBE) Formula is fully funded. This is wonderful news for all of Georgia’s public schools. Georgia Charter Schools Association is grateful for the leadership of Gov. Nathan Deal and House and Senate budget leaders who were able to reach this important agreement for Georgia students. For state-authorized charter schools, it will mean an additional $2.7 million in total funding. The amount for locally-approved charter schools will be determined by local school districts.
During Gov. Deal’s eight-year administration, QBE funding has steadily increased. Gov. Deal will leave office with the largest amount of funding in Georgia history devoted to K-12 education. Every Governor aspires to have the legacy of improving education in their State. By fully funding QBE and many other previous strong moves supporting charter schools and other public schools, Governor Deal is leaving Georgia with the legacy as the “Education Governor” among many other richly deserved accolades for our state.
We urge all Charter school leaders, board members, parents and students to express their appreciation to Gov. Deal as well as to the Georgia General Assembly for this much-needed boost in funding.
