Our thoughts and prayers are with the House Speaker’s wife and children. Speaker Ralston was a strong supporter of public education, including public charter schools. The Georgia Charter Schools Association is grateful for crucial charter school legislation that gained passage during his tenure as House Speaker. The 2012 constitutional amendment to allow the state to create charter schools; the passage of House Bill 787, a critical funding equity bill for state charter schools; and the establishment of a charter school facilities grant program in House Bill 430, have benefited tens of thousands of Georgia children. These crucial pieces of legislation have given more Georgia students access to high-quality educational opportunities that meet their individual needs and help them reach their full potential.
