Description
Position Description: The responsibility of the charter school athletic director is to manage and coordinate all aspects of the athletic contests, rules, and accommodations for all Charter Athletic League sports.
Reports to: Member school executive directors
Network of support: Member school athletic directors
Responsibilities
Promoting and Communicating
- Attends at least 80% of all athletic contests
- Works with the athletic directors to effectively communicate and update event schedules
- Collaborate to resolve scheduling issues
- Works to ensure that all athletic teams adhere to league rules.
- Mediates disputes or conflicts that may arise
- Ensure that coaches promote and maintain positive sportsmanship
- Outline code of conduct for players, coaches and families
- Coordinate league recognition and celebrations
Planning and Executing
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all MACAL policies and procedures
- Assists in developing and implementing appropriate rules and regulations governing athletic contests
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
- Ensures that proper documentation and assurances (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current for all member schools.
- Coordinates all necessary services and supports needed for athletic contests, including, but not limited to, security, referees/umpires, concessions and ticketing
- Secure facilities and ensure they are well maintained
Aligning and Maintaining
- Provides support and guidance as requested for each member school’s sports programs
- Tracks/documents scores, player statistics, league rankings, etc., and coordinates playoff tournaments and accompanying awards.
- Where practical and beneficial, it prepares budgets and allocates league fees, transportation, equipment/uniform purchases, and inventory for member schools.
- Provides support for the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, including the maintenance of updated inventories.
- Support the creation and implementation of consistent game schedules

- Staying current on the various rules and regulations, schedules, budget figures, and knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
- Experience in coaching or administration.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Understanding fundraising and promotional events.
- Experience with developing and managing a budget.
