The Georgia Charter Schools Association is seeking qualified candidates who could potentially serve on the governing boards of Georgia’s public charter schools.
Candidates for Board Service
GCSA’s goal is to help build diverse boards with the skills needed to successfully oversee Georgia’s public charter schools. Boards benefit from having members with varied expertise in education, human resources, personnel management, finance, law, marketing, facilities, strategic planning, risk management, or fundraising, as well as individuals with connections to the community, local businesses, and political leaders. Those who are interested will be placed in a database that GCSA member boards can access as they recruit new members.
Board Service = Community Service
Volunteering to serve on a charter school board is an important way to give back to your community. A charter school is a self-governing nonprofit organization that operates under a contract, or a charter, with a state or local authorizer. To accomplish this, the board of the school is provided contract flexibility under state education law and autonomy through self-governance in exchange for higher accountability to raise student achievement. A charter school board makes sure the school it oversees meets all performance measures outlined in its charter.
