Job Description
The curriculum and teaching practices at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School place students at the center of their learning in a hands-on way, actively engaged in exploring questions and coached by their teachers towards the demonstration of mastery of higher-order concepts and skills. The curriculum does not rely on textbooks – it is driven instead by rich and interesting projects and learning experiences that help students to show understanding and develop meaningful skills. We have 628 total students, 394 of whom are in the elementary grades.
We are seeking an experienced education leader with an expertise in the elementary grades to lead our Elementary Campus and join our K-8 leadership team.
Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School, Elementary Campus Assistant Principal
Position Description
- Build an empowered, inclusive community of students, families, and educators.
- Foster strong relationships so every student is known well and feels valued by the school community.
- Support the development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
- Encourage students to become active, informed citizens in a global society.
- Manage, support, and guide the delivery of high-quality, differentiated instruction to maximize academic growth for all students.
- Support the Principal in developing and sustaining systems to set academic and behavioral goals, analyze data, and provide professional development aligned to those goals.
- Assist with implementing school, district, and state policies and procedures.
- Support clear and consistent communication with staff, students, and families.
- Oversee the supervision and evaluation of assigned faculty and staff.
- Supervise standardized testing to ensure compliance with all procedures and regulations.
- Serve on the campus leadership team and the K–8 leadership team.
- Support students with disabilities, including those covered under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Participate in ongoing, relevant professional development.
- Engage in continuous self-reflection and growth, incorporating feedback from evaluations.
- Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, families, and community partners to advance the school’s mission and goals.
- Lead and facilitate faculty and school-wide meetings as assigned.
- Fulfill all professional duties and responsibilities throughout the contract term.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Elementary Campus Principal and/or Executive Director
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Extensive training and experience in educational leadership.
- Strong knowledge of laws and regulations affecting public education, with specific understanding of charter school requirements.
- Excellent communication, organization, and management skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse students, families, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff, administrators, families, and community partners to advance the school’s mission and goals.
Reports To:
Elementary Campus Principal
Education
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
Qualified candidates will demonstrate the following experience and competencies:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
- At least three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience in a supervisory or administrative role.
- Proven experience implementing and overseeing positive behavior interventions and student support systems.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating with diverse students, families, faculty, and staff.
- Prior experience in a charter school environment and/or within a Coalition of Essential Schools framework preferred.
Employment Term
This position follows a 214-day work calendar.
