Cirrus Academy, a K – 8 charter school in Macon, GA, has been on its flight to excellence since 2016. This STEM focused school is seeking a dynamic Head of School to launch the school to its next level of success!
About the Position:
The ideal candidate will be student-focused, strategic, and bring a track record of success in academic achievement, operations, and fiscal management. A strong ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders is essential.
In conjunction with the leadership team, the Head of School is responsible for the implementation and achievement of the school’s academic vision, student advancement and daily operations within the school. The Head of School will work collaboratively to ensure successful academic outcomes for all students while employing long-term instructional sustainability measures involving professional development, teacher quality assessment, curriculum, and pedagogical advancement.
Responsibilities:
- Attends and participates in all meetings of the Board and committees (as required).
- Provides feedback for Board policies and oversees successful implementation of policies.
- Supervises the annual operating budget, makes budget recommendations and implements the Board approved budget.
- Prepares and submits to the Board recommendations relative to all matters requiring Board action, placing before the Board such necessary and helpful facts, information and reports as are needed to ensure the making of informed decisions.
- Informs and advises the Board about the programs, practices and problems of the schools and keeps the Board informed of the activities operating under the Board’s authority.
- Secures and nominates for employment the best qualified and most competent teachers and supervisory and administrative personnel.
- Assigns and transfers employees as the interest of the district may dictate and reports such actions to the Board for approval. Reports to the Board the case of any employee whose service is unsatisfactory and recommends appropriate action.
- Leads the school’s executive team and ensures high quality day-to-day management of the school(s) and district.
- Communicates with stakeholders to provide information about the district’s educational practices, policies, successes, and challenges in the district’s schools.
- Delegates responsibility to other employees of the Board the exercise of any powers or the discharge of any duties with the knowledge that the delegation of power or duty does not relieve the Head of School of final responsibility for the action taken under such delegation.
- Keeps informed of modern educational thought and practices by advanced study, by visiting other school systems, by attending educational conferences, and by other appropriate means.
- Studies and revises, in coordination with the GA DOE, SCSC, and staff, all curriculum guides and courses of study, on a continuing basis.
- Recommends to the Board for its adoption all courses of study, curriculum guides, and major changes in texts and time schedules to be used in the schools.
- Submits to the Board a clear and detailed explanation of any proposed procedure which would involve either departure from established policy or the expenditure of substantial sums.
- Makes recommendations to the Board concerning the transportation of pupils in accordance with the law and the requirements of safety.
- Maintains adequate records for the schools, including a system of financial accounts, business and property records, personnel, school population, and scholastic records.
- Acts as custodian of such records and of all contracts, securities, documents, title papers, books of records, and other papers belonging to the Board.
- Provides suitable instructions and regulations to govern the use of care of school properties for school purposes.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of school system administration.
- Knowledge of supervision and management.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with students, school system employees, media, civic officials, and the general public.
- Ability to oversee and administer a school system.
- Ability to make presentations and speak before groups of all ages, levels and backgrounds.
- Ability to develop, organize and maintain educational programs and services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, community groups, and others as required.
- Ability to motivate, lead, direct, and supervise staff involved in various school system activities.
- Ability to select, develop, organize and effectively utilize administrative and supervisory staff.
- Good analytical abilities and skills.
- Ability to establish and implement rules, policies, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must qualify for a Georgia certificate in Leadership at either an L-6 or L-7 level.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in education is required, preferably including the following:
- serving as a principal or in other administrative positions;
- serving as Head of School or assistant Head of School of a public school district with extensive executive experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Curriculum;
- Personnel;
- Business Administration, including finance and facilities; or in positions with comparable experience and responsibilities.
- Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
This position reports to the Cirrus Academy Charter School Board of Directors.
Start Date: Immediate
Number of Workdays: 239 days from July 1 – June 30
Certificate and License Requirements: Minimum SRL Tier I Certification or equivalent
Salary: Commensurate with experience
