Position Summary:
The REACH Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction while serving as a trusted advisor to students of grades 9-12. This role supports both academic achievement and student development by fostering strong relationships, monitoring progress, and guiding students toward post-secondary readiness. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessment data in compliance with school and state requirements.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes high expectations and student agency.
- Participate in curriculum development, vertical alignment, and instructional improvement initiatives.
- Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and required professional development.
- Uphold all Georgia Department of Education, GaPSC, and charter school policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Support school events, enrichment activities, and other duties as assigned.
- Contribute positively to school culture and always model professionalism.
Advisory Responsibilities
- Serve as an Advisor to a group of students, meeting regularly during scheduled advisory periods.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with assigned students and serve as a primary adult advocate at school.
- Monitor academic performance, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional well-being of advisees.
- Support students with goal setting, organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills.
- Facilitate advisory lessons focused on college and career readiness, character development, and life skills.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support needs.
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and support staff to address student needs and interventions.
- Assigning and facilitating self-guided coursework for students across all subject areas.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Strong classroom management and instructional delivery skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a growth mindset.
- Proficiency with educational technology and student information systems.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid or eligible Georgia teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) in the appropriate content area OR eligibility for certification through a GaPSC-approved pathway (e.g., Provisional, Charter School Waiver, or Nontraditional Certification, if applicable).
- Preferred credential or specialization in Mathematics.
- Preferred experience teaching Mathematics at the high school level.
- Knowledge of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).
- Ability to pass required Georgia background checks and employment verification.
- Preferred experience teaching at the high school level.
- Preferred experience working in a charter school or non-traditional educational setting.
- Preferred training or experience in advisory programs, mentoring, or social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Strong data-driven instruction and student intervention experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the building to observe classrooms and activities.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally (books, materials, equipment).
- Work may include occasional evening or weekend hours for events, meetings, or emergencies.
