At its January meeting, the State DOE Charter Committee moved to action approval of three new startup charter school petitions. All three schools were approved the following day by the State Board of Education. Globe Academy — Will open as a K-3 school, adding a grade per year to become a K-8 school. It offers dual language immersion program and is authorized by DeKalb County. Languages offered will include French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
Chattahoochie Hills Charter School — A K-5 school that will add a grade per year and expand to K-8. CHCS offers place-based outdoor experiential learning, targeting enrollment from zip codes in South Fulton County.
Westside Atlanta Charter School — Will open as a K-2 school, but eventually plans to expand to K-8. Authorized by Atlanta Public Schools, WACS has a student-centered learning approach that implements project-based learning emphasizing language literacy.
