Cat Bowling is a physical education and specialist team lead teacher at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology. She was nominated by a colleague and one of the school’s assistant principals. They describe Ms. Bowling as an innovative educator who continually goes beyond what is expected and provides essential assistance to students, fellow teachers and school administrators.
“Ms. Bowling is extremely flexible and willing to help out whenever and where ever she is needed. Throughout this school year she has helped with our EIP and SPED programs, covered for sick teachers (virtually and face to face), doubles up her classes to give her specialist teammates extra planning, and developed our virtual online MoveFAST program,” says FAST Assistant Principal Mary Miller.
“This year, she has worked with her specialist team to create a COVID friendly PE/art/music program online called MoveFAST. This initiative has allowed our schools virtual and face-to-face children have time to move and create each week. The attendance for this activity is option and has grown to over 100+ students attending each session in K-5 and she and her team have also added a middle school version. These sessions are also recorded and posted on a specifically designed web page so that students can participate if they were not able to attend in person or re-watch if they want some additional time with their specialist teachers.”
“Ms. Bowling will literally bend over backwards to support all the students she encounters. She will also do the same for all of her colleagues,” says Hayley Harkins a fellow FAST educator. “She is constantly willing to help, offer ideas, and work with every student and educator. On top of being the P.E. teacher, she has numerous certifications in various grade levels and subject areas and is always willing to share her knowledge and experience.
She has always been supportive in cleaning, caring for others, and creating lessons and activities for students to do while distanced learning.
