On Saturday, Oct. 20, a diverse group of charter school leaders from across metro Atlanta shared unique personal stories about the pathway they took to leadership. The event was held at Centennial Academy and is part of a new series entitled: “Leader Mindset, A Head of School’s Journey.”
During the discussion, panelists spoke about leadership principles, time management and organization resources; lessons about failure and tools for achieving work/life balance while serving as a school leader. Panelists included: Carol Santos, Head of School for Centennial Academy Head of School; Jason Marshall, Executive Director of Wesley International Academy; Artesius Miller, Founder and Executive Director of Utopian Academy for the Arts; Charcia Nichols, Head of Schools for Ivy Preparatory Academy and Matt Underwood, Executive Director of Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School.
Aspiring principals, current administrators, support staff and a number of college students were among those showing up for the event. Attendees were strongly encouraged to make connections with school leaders who served the panel so they could learn about potential volunteer opportunities, professional development sessions or future job postings.
The event is part of a series intended to facilitate thought-provoking dialogue and networking opportunities for those committed to growing, learning, and building together in the field of urban education. Future events will include discussion panels, speaker talks, book clubs and service projects.
