It’s been ten years since Georgians voted overwhelmingly to amend the state constitution to create the State Charter Schools Commission. While the high-profile “Amendment 1” undoubtedly changed the course of charter school history in Georgia, the story of the hard-fought campaign that enabled the amendment’s passage is often overlooked.
GCSA is excited to moderate a candid discussion about what took place in months leading up to the referendum as well as the long-term impact of the State Charter Schools Commission. This 10-year retrospective will feature first-hand accounts from those who played critical roles in the amendment campaign, in the establishment of the SCSC, and in the approval and implementation of the SCSC’s first post-amendment charter schools.
