Charter Schools Day at the Capitol

Today’s the day! “Charter Schools Day” at the Capitol kicks off at 9 a.m. Find parking and event details below. 

This important event, organized by the Georgia Charter Schools Association and the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia, brings students, families, school staff, and other advocates together to educate Georgia lawmakers on the importance of our state’s charter school sector. 

WHERE TO GO:
  • State Capitol Building: 206 Washington Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30334
  • Parking Options and Parking Map.
  • Enter at Public Entrance (Capitol Square side; across from the Coverdell Legislative Office Building).  See Capitol Hill Map.
WHEN TO ARRIVE:
  • Arrive at the Capitol by 9:00 a.m. and go through security.
  • Report to Room 123 by 9:30 a.m.  (You can ask the security guards for directions to CAP 123 upon arrival.)
AGENDA:

  • 9:00 a.m. —  Arrive at the Capitol.  Convene in Room 123.
  • 9:45 a.m.  — Photo with elected officials
  • 10:00 a.m.  — Half the group goes to the House and half goes to the Senate where resolutions will be read declaring it Charter Schools Day, and attendees will be recognized in the galleries.  
    • Please remain in the galleries until the Charter Schools Day resolutions are read.  
    • Following the reading of the resolutions, you may remain in the gallery to observe how bills are debated and votes are cast, and/or you may explore the Capitol Building or meet with legislators (if a prior meeting has been scheduled).
  • 12:00 p.m. or upon adjournment of the House and Senate — Meet in Liberty Plaza (across Capitol Avenue from the Capitol Building).  
    • You will exit the Capitol the same way you entered.  After exiting, take a left and walk toward Capitol Avenue.  
    • Chick-Fil-A Boxed Lunches will be available for all attendees.
  • After lunch — group photo in Liberty Plaza (in front of the Capitol Building)
