Coastal Empire Montessori Charter School marked a major milestone on Tuesday, Aug. 11, with a groundbreaking ceremony for its future campus. The $8 million renovation at 2001 Cynthia Street in Savannah is expected to be completed in January 2027 and represents a significant investment in the school’s future.
Coastal Empire Montessori, Georgia’s first Montessori charter school, has offered families an innovative approach to public education for the past 18 years. What began as a vision to bring authentic Montessori education to families throughout the Coastal Empire has grown into a vibrant educational community serving children from Pre-K through fifth grade. The new campus will strengthen the school’s ability to fulfill its mission while expanding opportunities for generations of students to come.
The groundbreaking ceremony represents more than the start of construction. It symbolizes a renewed commitment to educational excellence, innovation and community impact.
The renovated campus will feature:
- Montessori classrooms designed to inspire exploration and independence.

- Enhanced outdoor learning environments that extend the classroom into nature.
- Modern shared spaces that encourage creativity, problem-solving and collaboration.
- Expanded facilities and amenities designed to meet the needs of future generations of Savannah students.
Community leaders, elected officials, supporters, families, alumni, and local business partners gathered to celebrate the next phase of Coastal Empire Montessori’s growth.
