The Georgia Department of Education recently revised information regarding the $115.7 million in funding for school security needs and enhancements included in the amended FY 2023 budget. Initially, guidance was given for each district to spend $50,000 for each school identified and appropriated in the budget by the legislature. However, last week the department issued a newly revised FAQ document stating that “districts DO NOT have to allocate funding for each appropriated school.” Meanwhile, in an accompanying letter, GaDOE said districts are required to submit a budget per allocated school.
GCSA sought clarification from GaDOE and was told the revised FAQ document should be used as a basis for guidance. District schools can contact their school system’s central office to find out if they will receive an AFY23 Security Grant. State charter schools should hear directly from GaDOE.
