Georgia Charter Schools Association congratulates former state Representative Mike Dudgeon on his new role as Director of Policy for Lt. Governor-Elect Geoff Duncan. Dudgeon stepped from GCSA’s Board of Directors this month to begin focusing on this exciting position. Georgia Charter Schools Association wishes him well and is pleased to have such a strong advocate for public charter schools and Georgia families working alongside Georgia’s next Lieutenant Governor.
Dudgeon served as the co-chairman of Georgia Charter School Association’s Policy and AdvocacyCommittee. Under his leadership, GCSA successfully advocated for the passage of House Bill 787. HB 787 was enacted into state law in May and led to an increase of more than $40 million for charter schools authorized by the State Charter Schools Commission.
Prior to joining GCSA’s board in September of 2017, Dudgeon served as a state Representative for District 25, which covers the southern part of Forsyth County and the northern parts of John’s Creek in Fulton County. While in office, he served as vice chair of the House Education Committee, Secretary of the Energy, Utilities, & Telecommunications Committee, and a member of the Appropriations, Science & Technology, and Small Business committees. Dudgeon was also previously a member of the Forsyth County Board of Education from 2007-2010. For the past eight years, Dudgeon has worked as Chief Technology Officer for Hi-Rez Studios, an Alpharetta-based video game startup company.
Dudgeon received a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He holds five U.S. patents and has been in the technology business for his entire career. Dudgeon helped build the Alpharetta based startup Radiant Systems in the 1990s and was part of the group that took the company public. In 2001, he founded Tier One, an engineering consulting business in Forsyth County.
