GCSA is pleased to announce that John Coleman, Managing Partner of Sovereign’s Capital, has been elected Chair of the Georgia Charter Schools Association’s Board of Directors. GCSA’s Board also approved Christopher T. Sanders, Executive Director of the East Metro Community Improvement District (CID), as Board Vice Chair. John was elected to a one-year term and can serve a maximum of two years. When John’s term of service has been completed, Christopher will be positioned to assume the role of GCSA Board Chair. John Coleman, Chair of GCSA’s Board of Directors
John Coleman currently serves as Managing Partner of Sovereign’s Capital. He previously held a variety of leadership positions at Invesco, Ltd., including Head of Invesco Private Capital Partners, COO of Private Markets, CAO of Global Institutional Client, and global Head of Strategy and Business Planning.
Other past professional experience includes positions in energy arbitrage, consulting, asset management, and housing and community development with McKinsey & Company, Bridgewater Associates, and the Housing Partnership Network. He has a passion for education and has served on a number of boards related to both K-12 and higher education.
John is a frequent writer and public speaker, with a recurring series of articles at Harvard Business Review, and has previously published four books.
John is a summa cum laude graduate of Berry College, a graduate with High Distinction from the Harvard Business School where he was a Dean’s Award winner and Class Day Speaker, and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School where he was both a Zuckerman and a George Fellow. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Jackie, and their four children.
Christopher T. Sanders, Vice Chair of GCSA’s Board of Directors
Christopher serves as the Executive Director of the East Metro Community Improvement District (CID). Before working for the CID, he was with the Georgia Department of Revenue as an Assistant Director. Prior to the Georgia Department of Revenue, he served in customer relations, marketing, and business development at Georgia Pacific. In 2021, Christopher was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Stone Mountain Memorial Association by Gov. Brian Kemp.

In his spare time, he participates in various activities at his old Alma Mata Redan High School, serves on The University of West Georgia Alumni Association Board of Directors, MBA recruitment ambassador for the Professional MBA program at the University of Georgia, and serves as a men’s group and boys’ high school group leader at Buckhead Church. Sanders holds a B.B.A in Business Management from the University of West Georgia and a M.B.A from the University of Georgia.
