Aarti Sharma, GCSA’s Vice President of New School Development, has been selected as a member of the LEAD Atlanta class of 2019. Lead Atlanta is an eight-month leadership development and community development opportunity for metro area professionals between the ages of 27 and 34. The goal of Lead Atlanta is to provide Atlanta’s young leaders with the necessary education and skills so they can become effective leaders who are committed to the common good.
Sharma leads Georgia Charter School Association’s incubator program, which works with several new or replicating charter school teams each year to provide highly-focused training and support, which is personally tailored. Prior to working for GCSA, Sharma served as Director of the District Flexibility and Charter Schools Division at the Georgia Department of Education. In 2016, the National Association of Charter School Authorizers selected her for its NACSA Leaders Program. She has also been a recipient of the Equal Justice Works Fellowship, which allowed her to represent court-involved youth in education proceedings.
Sharma began her career in education as a teacher with Teach for America in Miami. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.
