As students head back to the classroom this fall, Georgia is welcoming five new public charter schools that will expand access to high-quality learning opportunities. From metro Atlanta to communities in the southern and northwestern regions of the state, these five new schools—Academy for Innovation in Medicine, Northwest Georgia Charter Academy, Reach Public Schools, Tapestry Public Charter School, and The Meliora School—are providing families with new educational options designed to meet the diverse needs of students and communities.
Academy for Innovation in Medicine, The Meliora School, and Northwest Georgia Charter Academy were supported by the GCSA Charter Incubator, a competitive training process designed to attract and prepare top talent for establishing or replicating public charter schools in Georgia.
Academy for Innovation in Medicine (Atlanta)
Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM) is Georgia’s first healthcare-focused STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) charter school designed specifically around healthcare career pathways. Through a formal partnership with Grady Health System, students will have access to authentic workforce-based learning experiences, industry exposure, mentorship opportunities, and early pathways into high-demand healthcare careers. The school model was intentionally designed to address both student aspirations and the state’s growing healthcare workforce needs.
AIM is also the first public charter school in Georgia to fully leverage the Accelerated Career Diploma, allowing students to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree at no cost. Graduates will leave AIM with industry-recognized credentials, career-ready skills, and a pathway to high-demand healthcare careers while saving thousands in college tuition.
The school opened with students in grades 6 and 9 and will eventually expand to serve grades 6-12.
The Meliora School (Snellville)
The Meliora School will provide students with an innovative educational experience centered on mastery-based learning and entrepreneurship. Through personalized learning pathways, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and business leadership skills while progressing based on demonstrated mastery rather than seat time.
The school features a student-centered model focused on mastery-based learning, computer science, and entrepreneurship. Through a partnership with the Khan Schools Network, students will engage in rigorous, project-based learning aligned with Georgia Standards. The school’s model is designed to cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs, innovators, and community leaders.
The Meliora School opened this fall with grades 6 and 7 and will expand over time to become Gwinnett County’s first 6-12 public charter school.
Northwest Georgia Charter Academy (Cave Spring)
Northwest Georgia Charter Academy (NGCA) represents a historic milestone as the first charter school approved to serve students in Northwest Georgia. The school’s career-connected learning model will provide students with exposure to emerging industries and workforce opportunities that are driving economic growth throughout the region. By aligning educational experiences with regional workforce demands, the school will help prepare students for both postsecondary success and meaningful careers within their local communities.
The public charter school will serve grades K-5 this fall and plans to add one grade level each year to reach K-12. The school is co-located on a secure, gated campus in Cave Spring, Georgia.
Tapestry Public Charter School (Doraville)
Tapestry Public Charter School opened its second campus in Clayton County on Monday, bringing its inclusive, individualized approach to education to more Georgia students. The school provides an academically engaging learning environment where neurotypical students and students on the autism spectrum learn together.
The school does not divide students into “regular” and “special,” but instead builds classrooms where everyone learns side by side, supported by two teachers who know how to reach a wide range of learners.
The new Clayton County campus is welcoming its inaugural class of students in grades 6–10 and will add a grade level each year, eventually serving students in grades 6–12. The expansion builds on the success of Tapestry’s original DeKalb County campus, which opened in 2014.
REACH Public Schools (Savannah)
REACH Public Schools is a charter high school serving grades 9-12 in the Savannah-Chatham County School District. Reach offers individualized plans and flexible options, meaningful partnerships and internship opportunities so students can balance school with work, family responsibilities, and other opportunities that matter to them.
Students learn through a mix of self‑guided learning, small-group classes, and one‑on‑one support from teachers and staff.
