Congratulations to the Class of 2021! GCSA is excited to recognize Kendra Holloway, a graduate of Tapestry Public Charter School as an outstanding senior. Kendra was nominated by Katoya Bledsoe, a counselor at Tapestry.
What are the student’s plans after graduation?
Kendra will attend Georgia State University/Perimeter College to pursue an associate’s degree in the General Studies Pathway. She is also interested in the area of web accessibility, particularly for blind users, and has identified several online courses in that area. She plans to start taking these courses in the summer.
Why does this student deserve recognition?
Kendra is the Class of 2021 Valedictorian. Kendra shares that her blindness and her Asperger’s, especially the former, have made her fairly difficult for her to complete assignments without accessible accommodations. Despite these setbacks, she still managed to earn mostly A’s all the way through school.
How has attending a Georgia public charter school benefited the student?
Kendra states that Tapestry allows her to learn in a setting that is flexible, and she is accepted at Tapestry just as she is. She feels that it’s okay to be different at Tapestry. She enjoys playing in band, but not performing. She feels that her school understands that. Mr. Matt Miller, Kendra’s music teacher, allows her to do a lot of independent study in music classes and work at her own pace. She can explore some things in depth while other students are just starting to learn them.
