Korey Burton is a fifth grade teacher at Spring Creek Charter Academy. The parent who nominated Ms. Burton says she is, “always there for her students. She has such a close relationship with her ‘kids’ and they know they can always come to her if they need help. She engages parents every week when she reaches out to tell us about the week ahead. She also embraces the differences in students and fosters an environment where the students can be themselves and learn from each other. My son has autism and she has created such a safe space for him that he openly spoke about his autism to his classmates. She is the best teacher that I have ever met. I can’t thank her enough for the positive influence she has had on my son.
Ms. Burton didn’t skip a beat when COVID hit. She drove to every single one of her students houses and rode by to say bye with homemade signs from a distance. My son went to school in person and although Ms. Burton had to teach both in person and online you could never tell she was juggling both. We had a few weeks in quarantine where we had to learn from home this year and as an in person student my son wasn’t used to the online learning at first. She was available to walk him through and her assignments were actual assignments not busy work to complete. My son has done remarkably well this school year despite the challenging times. I credit his success on Ms. Burton.”
