Georgia Charter Schools Association is excited to recognize Lane Herndon, a graduate of Lake Oconee Academy, as an outstanding senior in the class of 2020. Herndon was nominated by Jody Worth, Upper School Director at Lake Oconee Academy.
What are the student’s plans after graduation?
Lane will attend University of Chicago as a QuestBridge and Odyssey scholarship recipient to major in creative writing beginning in the Fall. Additionally, Lane received a full paid scholarship to participate in University of Chicago’s academic achievement program held virtually this Summer.
Why does this student deserve recognition?
Lane is an outstanding student indeed. Lane does nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but in humility, she considers others better than she considers herself. She looks not only to her own interests but to the interest of others. Lane is a very conscientious, hard-working student. She is self-motivated and works independently. Lane far exceeds expectations with the quality of her work.
How has attending a Georgia public charter school benefited the student?
Lane stated, “Attending a Georgia public charter school allowed me to explore all of the areas of my interest such as writing, art, and history. I was able to engage in those classes without sacrificing other academic interests. I was allowed the opportunity to take many high-level courses as well as the engaging courses that I am most passionate about.”
