What are the student’s plans after graduation?
Payton plans to attend Brandeis University as a Posse Scholar. She hopes to major in Theater and minor in Business.
Why does this student deserve recognition?
Payton is one of the most remarkable students that I’ve ever had the pleasure of counseling. She is a natural leader, and she uses her powerful voice to uplift others. Payton’s leadership was instrumental as Captain of Drew Charter School’s State Championship Debate Team, and Co-Founder of the Junior Academy Debate Team. She is a proud member of the inaugural cohort of the prestigious Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project, and she has been featured on countless news platforms for her stellar leadership within the organization. Most recently, Payton was asked to deliver a keynote address at Harvard University’s School of Education. Beyond Debate, Payton is an accomplished harpist, thespian and playwright, and has dedicated herself to countless service initiatives including a mission trip to Peru. Payton stands out in her poise, work-ethic, and advocacy skills and we can’t wait to watch her take Brandeis University by storm!
How has attending a Georgia public charter school benefited the student?
Payton has taken advantage of every opportunity made available to her at Drew Charter School. She has benefited from the individual attention she has received from her teachers, and she has fully immersed herself in the breadth of extracurricular activities at Drew. She is a critical and creative thinker and has thrived in our innovative, project-based curriculum.
