Simone Hicks is a special education teacher at Tybee Island Maritime Academy. Mr. Hicks provides individualized instruction and goes the extra mile for students and their families.
“He goes above and beyond for all his students. He takes the time to learn what works for them, what their interests are and then he integrates those interests into his lesson plans,” says the Tybee Island Maritime Academy parent who nominated Mr. Hicks. “He creates a bond with his students and somehow managed to continue that bond even when we were virtual. He is always available to discuss parents’ concerns and give amazing feedback. TIMA is so lucky to have him and he truly deserves recognition!
Mr. Hicks knows that our son is obsessed with Halloween and there were many times when he used this to keep our sons attention by creating specific targeted “games” around Halloween. I would often see him in a new mask to make our son smile. He took extra time to find online Halloween coloring sheets and reward activities that our son loved. Our son’s meeting time with Mr. Hicks is something he looked forward to during the school’s virtual time.”
