Identification and Education of Exceptional Children
This course is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to meet the requirements of the Exceptional Child course for certification. This applies to Elementary, Middle Grades, Secondary, Administration, and other certification fields as needed. The course is designed to facilitate the identification, curriculum modification, and instruction of exceptional children and includes the history, philosophy, and psychology of teaching disabled children as well as gifted children. It is a basic overview/survey of all areas and categories of special education and giftedness. The purpose is to provide an introduction to students with exceptionalities for those who choose to increase their knowledge of special education and gifted populations. It covers all aspects of requirements of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and satisfies the state requirement for a course in the Identification and Education of Exceptional Children by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (HB671).
This is a 50 contact hour course for educators (5 PLUs), and is offered as needed using our online professional learning platform. There are no face-to-face meeting requirements and the course is completed at your own pace. Because the course is 100% online, registration is ongoing and there is no hard deadline for course completion.
