Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA) is pleased to welcome Aarti Sharma as Vice President of New School Development. In her new position, she will oversee the only charter school incubator in the state of Georgia. Georgia Charter Schools Association believes Sharma will bring her expertise in state and local laws and the authorization process to GCSA’s successful incubator program.
Sharma comes to GCSA after serving as Director of the District Flexibility and Charter Schools Division at the Georgia Department of Education. In her role with the department, Sharma worked with more than 100 charter schools throughout Georgia. In 2016, the National Association of Charter School Authorizers selected Sharma for its NACSA Leaders Program.
Sharma began her career in the education field as a teacher with Teach for America in Miami. Following her experience in the classroom, she attended law school at Emory University where she graduated with honors. After graduating from Emory, Sharma received an Equal Justice Works Fellowship, which allowed her to represent court-involved youth in education proceedings.
Sharma holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.
In her new role at GCSA, Sharma will work with several new or replicating charter school teams each year to provide highly-focused, personally-tailored training and support for school leaders and new governing boards. GCSA provides assistance to school founding teams in three distinct phases: incubation, Year Zero support and ongoing support.
Georgia Charter Schools Association selected Sharma after conducting a national search.
