To kick off National Charter Schools Week in May (May 1-7), GCSA and G-PAN are hosting “Charter Schools Rock,” a free celebration of Georgia’s public charter schools, Sunday, May 1, in the Atlantic Station Central Park, 2-5 p.m.
The event is designed to showcase the strength of the charter school movement and the achievements of the students in your schools. The high-spirited program will feature performances by students as well as other family friendly activities. Performances will include:
- Atlanta Preparatory Academy’s Spirit Team
- Brighten Academy’s Rhythm Team
- Dekalb Percussion
- KIPP Drummers
There will also be plenty of other family friendly activities like an arts and crafts activities area, a Charter Schools Rock dance elimination competition, a “Let’s Move” hula hoop competition and an appearance by Turner Television’s “Captain Planet.”
Additionally, GCSA member schools may take advantage of a limited number of free tables at “Charter Schools Rock,” for use in sharing information about your schools. This will be a unique opportunity to reach a wide audience of prospective students and parents, as Atlantic Station is the city’s premiere outdoor retail venue, attracting thousands of shoppers and families every weekend. Tables are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
