The Georgia Charter Schools Association has just announced that Lisa McDonald of Brighten Academy is the 2015 Charter School Leader of the Year, and that Brandom Jones of KIPP South Fulton Academy, is the 2015 Charter School Teacher of the Year.
Lisa McDonald worked as an educator for the Douglas County School System as a classroom and gifted resource teacher before founding and leading Brighten Academy in 2006. Ms. McDonald earned her B.A. in Program Service Learning and her Gifted Education certification from Mercer University. She received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education.
Brandom Jones is completing his ninth year in education as a Seventh Grade Mathematics Teacher at KIPP South Fulton Academy. He has also taught at two other charter public schools — Ivy Preparatory Academy and DeKalb Academy of Technology and the Environment. Mr. Jones has a B.A. in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University and a M.A.T. and Ed.S. in Secondary Education from Mercer University.
