Our hearts are heavy, and we join with those who are feeling anger, frustration and pain as a result of the senseless acts of racism and violence against black Americans. The recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor and the public outcry in cities across our state and nation remind us how much work is needed to create a world where every child can thrive and enjoy the basic human rights that many Americans take for granted.
In Georgia, more than 30,000 public charter school students are black and there are thousands of teachers and administrators of color. We stand in solidarity with them and want to express our continued intolerance of racial injustice and hate crimes.
Georgia Charter Schools Association is committed to ensuring every child in Georgia has access to a high-quality education. There are no easy answers, but we want to be part of the solution. We will continue to fight against systemic racism and inequality and support educational opportunities that transform students’ lives and bring positive change to local communities.
