Atlanta, GA, September 17, 2012 — Author and nationally acclaimed school reform activist Kevin Chavous will be the guest speaker at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, Thursday, September 20, 6:30-8:00 pm. The charter school, one of KIPP Metro Atlanta’s six schools, serves grades 9-12 and is located at 1952 Calloway Drive NW, Atlanta GA 30314.
Kevin Chavous a noted attorney, author and national school reform leader. He served on the Council of the District of Columbia from 1993-2005, where as education committee chair, he helped to usher charter schools and parental choice into the District of Columbia. He is currently chairman of the board of Democrats for Education Reform (DFER)
In his new book, “Voices of Determination: Children that Defy the Odds”, Mr. Chavous shares the stories of ten young people who overcame incredible challenges in order to get their education. Mr. Chavous will be signing books at the event.
Chavous is the chairman of the board of Democrats for Education Reform (DFER) and is a former board chair of Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO).
