ATLANTA – Lake Oconee Academy high school students received a College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) score that places them among the top ten schools in Georgia under new school ratings released by the Georgia Department of Education on Tuesday. Lake Oconee High School students received an overall CCRPI score of 104.1, the tenth highest CCRPI score in the state. The public charter school’s other students also performed well: Lake Oconee’s middle school students received a 97.3 on the state’s College and Career Ready Performance index and the public charter school’s elementary students received a 92.
Tucker said placing among the state’s top high schools is especially significant since this is the first year the school expanded to serve high school students. Since the Greensboro public charter school opened in 2007 it has consistently exceeded expectations for academic performance, parent and student satisfaction and growth. Lake Oconee Charter Academy is not only one of the highest performing schools in the state, but the charter school is also among the best in the nation. In 2014, the U.S. Department of Education selected the school as a National Blue Ribbon School from more than 132,000 schools eligible for the award. In 2014, bestschools.org also named Lake Oconee Academy among the twenty best elementary schools in the nation. Lake Oconee Academy has received a five-star rating (98.5 out of 100) from the Georgia Department of Education’s School Climate Star Rating. The school’s elementary has also previously placed number one in the state for its scores on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) and CCRPI ranking.
“Lake Oconee Charter Academy has consistently produced positive results for its students. Led by Dr. Otho Tucker, they have pursued student achievement with great resolve and with all the charter tools at their disposal,” said Georgia Charter Schools Association President Dr. Tony Roberts. “We commend Dr. Tucker for his leadership. He, his staff and board have driven this ongoing success. The school has consistently placed among the state’s top elementary schools. Now, in its first year after adding a high school, those students have placed among the top 10 schools in the State of Georgia for CCRPI results. Lake Oconee Academy is demonstrating the potential of every public school to strive for excellence and achieve it.”
Lake Oconee Academy believes every child can learn. To accomplish this, the school’s curriculum embraces specific points of distinction that include data-driven and standards-based instruction, required parental contracts outlining the roles and expectations for parents and guardians, a uniform dress code, college preparatory diplomas for all students, and real world experiences through job shadowing and internship opportunities.
