Atlanta, GA — Lake Oconee Academy (LOA), a PreK-9 public charter school in Greensboro, GA, that was a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School, has now been named one of the Top 50 public elementary schools in the nation by TheBestSchools.org. The award is based on the performance of students in grades 3-5 in each school. Schools on the Top 50 list are located throughout the continental United States, Germany and Japan.
According to TheBestSchools.org, these Top 50 American public elementary schools illustrate what “a highly-motivated faculty, staff, parents, and students can achieve by raising expectations, rewarding hard work, and building character. They also demonstrate school cultures that are highly effective at stimulating learning and fostering personal growth.”
Dr. Otho Tucker, CEO of Lake Oconee Academy took pride in the honor, “Even though this award was generated by the achievements of our students in grades three-five, I know our faculty will be the first to say the success stems from a school wide expectation of excellence from all and by all. The preparation these students received in grades Pre-K through grade two was critical to their success in grades 3-5. Meeting the expectations of teachers for students moving to grades six and beyond also drives third-fifth grade teachers to do their very best every day.”
“Lake Oconee Academy is a remarkable school that exemplifies what can happen when local school districts partner with charter schools and make innovation part of their strategic plan,” said Dr. Tony Roberts, President & CEO of The Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA). “Lake Oconee Academy is all about excellence. You feel it the minute you step onto their campus — from the way the building reflects the way children and teachers interact, to the school’s integration of academics, the arts, sports, and character. We are tremendously proud of them for earning this honor.”
