State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox visited Ivy Preparatory Academy in Norcross this week, in honor of National Charter Schools Week.
Ivy Prep is the state’s only all-girls charter middle school. In only two years of operation, the school’s test scores are on par or exceed those of other middle schools in metro Atlanta and the state. Cox stopped by several classrooms where students were studying math, English and social studies. She even participated in a class debate on the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War.
Afterward, Cox told a handful of news reporters who were present that Ivy Prep was “a great example” of what charter schools can do.
