NEW YORK and GEORGIA — EL Education, in collaboration with the Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA), is proud to announce Kolt Bloxson as a joint fellow with the GCSA Incubator and EL Education’s 2019 School Design Program. The EL Education School Design Fellowship supports innovative and entrepreneurial educators to design, launch, and lead new EL Education schools. The GCSA Incubator Program develops and supports high-quality charter schools throughout Georgia prior to their opening and throughout their first year of operation.

f you are interested in starting a charter school in Georgia, the Georgia Charter Schools Association has a grant for you! The Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA) is pleased to announce competitive grants of up to $75,000 to support founding school leaders to open charter schools within Atlanta Public Schools. Incubator grants allow applicants to devote their time and energy towards launching a high-quality charter school. These grants support the cost of living expenses for applicants, making it possible for them to focus their efforts on launching high-quality schools rather than balancing the intense demands of opening a school while working full-time.

GCSA Praises Gov. Deal & Georgia General Assembly for Fully Funding Georgia’s Education Formula

ATLANTA, GA – This is the first time since austerity cuts began more than a decade ago that the Quality Basic Education (QBE) Formula is fully funded. This is wonderful news for all of Georgia’s public schools. Georgia Charter Schools Association is grateful for the leadership of Gov. Nathan Deal and House and Senate budget leaders who were able to reach this important agreement for Georgia students. For state-authorized charter schools, it will mean an additional $2.7 million in total funding. The amount for locally-approved charter schools will be determined by local school districts.

Statement by Georgia Charter Schools Association Regarding the Death of Zell Miller

We are truly saddened by the death of former Georgia Governor Zell Miller. Miller was a true champion for education. He helped pave the way for the more than 86,000 children who are enrolled in a Georgia charter school today. In 1993, he signed a law allowing for conversion charter schools. In 1998, Miller took an even larger step by signing an act that led to the creation of startup charter schools throughout Georgia. Twenty years later, we reflect on his life and legacy and are grateful for all that he did to benefit the state’s public school students.
