Every summer, the same thing happens across Georgia: Schools finalize their rosters for the fall, someone accepts a job in another district, a new position gets funded, and suddenly there’s an opening that needs to be filled before the first day of school.
If you’re looking for work in education, this is your window.
Georgia’s charter schools are public schools, and like every public school, they staff up hardest between June and August. The difference is where they post. Charter school openings don’t always show up on the big district job sites or the national boards. Many of them go straight to the GCSA Job Board, where schools across the state list what they need.
What kinds of jobs are we talking about?
More than you might expect. Yes, there are classroom teaching positions across every grade band and subject area. But schools also need counselors, paraprofessionals, front office staff, custodians, after-school program leaders, substitutes, and administrators. Some listings are full time. Some are part time, which can work well if you’re a retired educator, a graduate student, or someone easing back into the workforce.
And because charter schools tend to be smaller than traditional district schools, the roles can be broader. A teacher at a charter school might also help shape curriculum. An office manager might work directly with the school leader every day. If you want your work to be visible, a smaller school is a good place to be.
Why timing matters
Positions posted in summer move fast. A school that needs a fifth-grade teacher by August isn’t going to sit on applications for six weeks. If you see a role that fits, apply that week, not that month! Have your resume ready, know your certification status, and be prepared to interview quickly.
One note on certification: Georgia charter schools have some flexibility in hiring, and requirements vary by school and role. If you’re changing careers or your certification is in progress, don’t rule yourself out before you ask. The listing will tell you what’s required, and the school can tell you what’s negotiable.

The GCSA Job Board lists current openings at charter schools across Georgia, from metro Atlanta to the coast. New positions are added as schools post them, so it’s worth checking back if you don’t see the right fit on your first visit.
